In 1940, World War II has begun and the Nazis steamroll the French Army and the British Expeditionary Force. Sophie Sollar, M.D., a Jewish surgeon, flees France and the certain antisemitism the Nazis will impose. She opens a women's clinic in the far southwest of Tunisia hoping to escape the war. When the Americans invade North Africa, the war comes to Tunisia. An American pilot, Danny Booker, crashes near the clinic amidst the German army and is rescued by Sophie. It's war and the story takes an unexpected twist.
5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping historical fiction.
This book is outstanding. While is revolves around WWII, at its heart it is about human kindness across different cultures. I didn’t know much about the war in North Africa, but the story takes you there as it shines a light on the brave women and men who served there.
The human connections are deeply moving and riveting. I hope Dr Gottesman is already at work on his next novel. Terry H.
5.0 out of 5 stars A book you can’t put down…just like In Flew Enza!
I’ve been asked, “If you could have dinner with any one from history or any fictional character, who would it be?” My answer would be Danny Booker, the protagonist of The Angel of North Africa. Every reader will enjoy meeting Danny and Sophie.

This was a book that is hard to put down. The main Characters are interesting and the story takes you on a winding road. There is a lot happening with many surprises. I was able to learn more things about WW II that I did not know. I tried to figure out how it all ends as I was reading but along the way many things happen that that make it all difficult to see where it will end. This book is well written and worth while reading and a well deserved 5 Star rating. I would recommend reading Gottesman's other books as well.

Friend sent me this wonderful book. It’s so beautiful and well written. Fantastic work. Involves human emotion, history, culture, language. This is a must read. I’m amazed it’s not on the bestseller list. It should be.
