Sarah, an impoverished, young, Jewish woman from Brooklyn loses her fiancé and most of her family during the 1918 Spanish Influenza pandemic. Having no options, she answers a marriage advertisement from a small town, Protestant, widower with three children.
After leaving Brooklyn, Sarah remains hounded by post-traumatic depression and, even after they marry, she wants to return home.
Behind the scenes, a greedy, all-powerful, local attorney needs Sarah to fail so he can sell the widower’s lands for profit.
Will Sarah be able to reconcile her new life and will she be able to love her new husband and stepchildren. Is she strong enough and smart enough to help defend her husband from ruin by outside forces.
